Yesterday, the East Fishkill Fire District hosted

Yesterday, the East Fishkill Fire District hosted their annual open house. He event was a tremendous success! Lots of people came out to see the district's apparatus and capabilities, as well as meeting some other groups.

It's always great to have so many community members at these events. Thank you all for coming out!

Recently, we were able to train with several other

Recently, we were able to train with several other district members on a narural gas emergency training simulator. This was a little different from what we normally do, but it was a very impressive display.

Last week, our monthly district drill was held at

Last week, our monthly district drill was held at the Stormville airport. We practiced waterflow and water shuttle strategies. Our first engine dropped supply line, and our second apparatus sent water to feed a hand line and deck gun. Numerous mutual aid companies participated and sent tankers to supply water.

We also had a ladder truck from station 1 set up flowing water as well.

It was a very good drill, and it's always great to train with other agencies.

The mutual aid companies that participated include Pawling, La Grange, Union Vale, Hughsonville, and Beekman. Thank you to all the members and mutual aid companies that came out to make this drill a huge success.

Last night, several of our members were standing by at East Fishkill's fireworks. After the show was over, we walked through the area and made sure there were no hot spots or smoldering fires.

While we were there, a couple of us got food from the Hooked food truck, and it was fantastic! Thank you guys so much for hooking us up!

Today, several of our members were joined by membe

Today, several of our members were joined by members across the district to hold the Junior Firefighter Challenge at Gayhead Elementary for their 6th grade picnic and field day.

First and foremost, congratulations to the 2025 6th grade class! You guys were awesome today!

For the Firefighter Challenge, students had to carry a length of hose, use a sledgehammer to move a wooden sled, crawl through a culvert pipe, carry a 'victim', and use a hose line to 'put out a fire'.

Thanks to all members from across the district that came out today. It was an absolute blast!

I'd like to take a moment to recognize a fallen so

I'd like to take a moment to recognize a fallen soldier and former firefighter from New Jersey, LCpl Michael Schwarz.

Michael joined the Carlstadt Fire Department before joining the United States Marine Corps and being deployed to Iraq. On November 27, 2006, Michael was hit by sniper fire and succumbed to his wounds. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Personally, I'll never forget the trip to Dover Air Force Base in a firetruck to bring him home.

The memories of those we've lost, and we're forever grateful for their sacrifices.

On Memorial Day, we remember the fallen soldiers of our great nation.

Earlier this week, several of our members waited on a highway overpass to welcome home, and pay tribute to, a long awaited fallen soldier.

U.S. Army Air Forces Staff Sgt. Eugene J. Darrigan was killed in action March 11, 1944 when his plane went down during a mission in New Guinea.

As he was brought back home to Wappingers, many overpasses were manned by other first responders to pay their respects as well. We were honored to be a part of it.

This month, we utilized a bus that was previously trained on. We were able to train on several different tactics and strategies. It was very interesting to be able to train on something we dont usually have the opportunity to train on.

Today, I'd like to wish a huge congratulations and happy birthday to our newest interior firefighter, Liv! At our most recent meeting, on the 6th, Liv received a black shield for her helmet, which shows that she's now cleared for interior work at a fire scene.

In the first picture, she's with our firematic officers for this year. In the second picture, she's joined by Dad, Brian, a member in Stormville, an EMT, and rescue captain, as well as Mom, Jen, who helps us out by taking some great pictures while we're training.

Huge thanks to all of our members who spent time this week cleaning our apparatus and stations. Thank you to the auxiliary and support group members for helping, as well as cooking all week.

Members, take a minute to look at everything we've done this week and take pride in how well we all work together and how good everything looks.

Huge thank you to the Royal Rangers from Mission Church. These men and young men came out last night to help us clean and wax our trucks to get ready for this weekend's inspection.

Today, several of our members, along with several members from stations 3 and 4, got together to do some training. We practiced forcible entry, Vent Enter Isolate Search, and pumping/tanker shuttle.

These are all critical skills at a fire scene, and it was awesome that 3 companies worked together to improve our skills!

While on vacation, I had an amazing visit at a loc

While on vacation, I had an amazing visit at a local fire station outside of London. They gave an incredible tour of the fire station, their engine, and we even had a spot of tea. The great tour was cut short when they had a call to run to. Thank you guys so much for your hospitality, I'll definitely be in touch.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out today for our pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt. Our ladies' auxiliary did an amazing job with the egg hunt. All the kids there had a blast.

Most of all, thank you to the members who took time out of their busy lives, some arriving at the firehouse as early as 5am to make sure today went well. We all worked together, and it showed.

This week, several of our members went through our mask confidence trailer, and mayday simulator trailer. This is a tough exercise that really prepares us for the worst that could happen. Many of these spaces are tight enough that firefighters have to take their air packs partially, or all the way off.

Remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors! If your smoke detectors don't have replaceable batteries, make sure yours isn't at its end of life. Working smoke detectors can make an enormous difference in an emergency situation, and they'll never make any noise without batteries.

On Monday night, several of our members and severa

On Monday night, several of our members and several rescue squad members had a drill together about search and victim rescue. The way we hand over someone after rescuing them from a fire is very important. This drill allowed us to focus on the transfer and also gave our EMTs a chance to practice some 'what-if' scenarios. This was a very enjoyable drill, and it's always nice to with with other groups that we don't always get the chance train with.

Today, we said goodbye to a longtime member of the fire district and rescue squad, Cathy Salerno. Cathy had recently celebrated 50 years with the district and her presence will be missed. She touched the lives of countless members and residents. We will never be able to thnk her enough for all hat she has done. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with you and your family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Binghamton Fire Department, the city of Binghamton, and most importantly, the family of Firefighters lost or injured in the line of duty.

Today, several Stormville Fire members practiced i

Today, several Stormville Fire members practiced ice rescue with the district ice rescue team. There are many important jobs in this team, and practice is so important. Safety is a huge concern, and as you can see, everyone is wearing safety equipment. Rescuers on the shore have to wear a Personal Flotation Device. Rescuers that will be going into the water wear a special suit that isolates us from the very cold water. First, we'll try to use our rope bags that we throw to a victim, which keeps our rescuers out of the water. In the event we do have to go into the water, we use the sticks with rope to reach out to a victim. The yellow tubes are used as flotation for the victim to help them stay above water. The long lines attached to our rescuers are for safety and to remove both the victim and rescuer from the water.
Be careful on ice. Just because it's thick in one spot doesn't mean all the ice is thick. If it starts to crack, lay down and slowly make your way back towards the shore. Stay warm and stay safe!

Last week, we had a work day at our firehouse. Many members came out to replace ceiling tiles and insulation to try and help our tanker building stay warmer during this cold winter stretch. It's always great to see our membership come together and get so much needed work done. Thank you to everyone that came out and put in the time and effort needed to make our building better.

Last week, we had some visitors from the Royal Rangers from Mission Church. They are a mentoring ministry that explores a variety of subjects, including outdoor activities, trade skills, technology, and art and culture.
One of their adult leaders donated a car to the district, which will be used for training. If you are interested in donating a vehicle for our training purposes, call the East Fishkill Fire District headquarters for more information.

With the winter months upon us, many people will turn to ice fishing, ice skating, and various other activities on frozen bodies of water. Remember to check ice to make sure it's safe!

Last night, many of our members went through First

Last night, many of our members went through First Aid and Stop The Bleed training. This not only allows us to better help residents at calls, our own members as well. First Aid covered many things from Epi-Pens and Narcan, to making a sling for a broken arm. Stop The Bleed focused on serious bleeding, and our members practiced applying tourniquets (but not tightly).

On October 14, the Stormville Fire Company had a chimney fire drill. Our interior firefighters practiced procedure that includes removing all burning materials from fireplace, and dropping chains down the chimney to dislodge any other burning materials. Our exterior firefighters practiced placing and holding ladders, as well as additional on scene support.
Remember to have your chimney cleaned, and stay safe as the weather starts to get colder.

Today (Oct 6) was the East Fishkill Fire District

Today (Oct 6) was the East Fishkill Fire District open house. Every Fire Company in the district was there helping to show the community what we do. We were also joined by the New York State Forest Rangers, several companies allowing children to touch a truck, a pet rescue group, and the local cub scouts! It was a great event on a beautiful day!

On Sept 30, the Stormville Fire Company and the Hillside Lake Fire Company went to New Hackensack for a joint drill. The fire was located in the burn room on the first floor, and we entered from the second floor, simulating a basement fire. Each team got a rotation as search, hose, and FAST. It was a very good drill, and I can't thank New Hackensack enough for having us over for training.

Our most recent district district drill, we went o

Our most recent district district drill, we went over all of the specialty equipment in the district. At Stormville, our heavy rescue and brush truck are our specialty pieces. The district has a drone, two boats, a hazmat trailer, and a shoring trailer. The shoring trailer is used when extra wood is needed at an accident scene to secure a vehicle, or perhaps sections of a building. Station 1 has a rescue, two ladder trucks, and a FAST apparatus. A FAST team will go to mutual aid fires to ensure safety of firefighters that are operating. Stations 3 and 4 also have brush equipment. These tools allow us to better protect our station areas, the district as a whole, and surrounding towns that call us.

Recently, the Stormville Fire Company had a banque

Recently, the Stormville Fire Company had a banquet to celebrate our 75th anniversary.
First picture is State Senator Rob Rolison presenting our chief and our 50 year members with a proclamation celebrating our historic milestone.
Second picture is the banquet committee that worked very hard to put together a wonderful evening.
Third is our 50 year members being presented with a badge to commemorate their years of service.
4th picture is our chief being presented with a gift from the Wiccopee Fire Company.
5th is the cake we all enjoyed after a great dinner.
I'd like to once again thank everyone that helped put the event together, all the members, all the firematic and civil officers, and every fire company and politician that sent us something to congratulate and thank us.
